Gary Maggart
Gary is a life-long resident of Wilson County, with the exception of the years attending college. Both parents stressed the importance of hard work, respecting the dignity of all people, and serving others. That influenced a pursuit of a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) degree from East Tennessee State University in 1973, followed by a Masters of Social Work (MSW) degree from the University of Tennessee in 1976. Gary followed that with 8 years employment as a mental health therapist at the Wilson County Mental Health Center, now Cumberland Mental Health. He then pursued a career in human resources, serving 15 years in leadership roles with Cracker Barrel Restaurants and 19 years with leadership responsibilities at LifeWay Christian Resources. Following his retirement from LifeWay in 2017, Gary served the church he attends, Immanuel Baptist Church in Lebanon, as a part-time church administrator for three years. Gary fully retired from employment in 2020, but continues to serve on a voluntary basis on multiple committees and groups at his church and within his community.
Gary is blessed with a wonderful wife, Denise, two adult children and five grandchildren. He enjoys family events and watching the grandchildren play sports. He enjoys hiking, biking, pickleball, kayaking, fishing, traveling, and serving others.
